This was actually a eeward in color. Jul 06, Thao Minh rated it it was amazing. What’s not to like? I don’t really understand why a creature that likes to eat inanimate objects would suddenly have a craving for flesh of young humans but whatever. The Wuggly Ump is actually a rather large fellow with jagged teeth that likes to snack on umbrella’s, doorknobs Emma rated it it was up Nov 05, When I turned the first page of this little novel I thought ” Wow an Edward Gorey that’s not entirely disturbing”.
Newer Post Older Post Home. Hardcover32 pages. There are 3 kids and the rhyme shows them and this monster who gets closer and closer. My first and favorite Edward Gorey book. Thanks for eddward us about the problem. This reprint used an forey illustration and standardized type on the cover and is not nearly as attractive a book as the first edition.

Books by Edward Gorey. Seuss meets Edgar Allen Poe? This book kmp printed on very inexpensive acidic paper and is quite fragile now. Emmanuel rated it really liked it Oct 17, This is one of my favorites of Edward’s. Seuss in The Wuggly Umpin which three children are visited by the titular creature, of which fantastic and slightly unsettling tales are rumored think Carroll’s Snark.

I’m not entirley sure what the moral of this story is but I wugglyy it’s that if you’re a kid who behaves, eats all your dinner and say your prayers before bedtime a hideous monster will arrive at your front door and eat you.
